Just as the Ramblers’ Association is split up
into Areas (Essex is the second largest in the country) so the Areas are split
into Groups. Until 2003 the Essex Area used its thrice-yearly publication,
The Essex Rambler, to communicate with Groups. It was then decided that a
more regular. Less expensive form of communication was necessary and the Essex
Area Update was born.
The original purpose of EAU was to provide a
connection, via secretaries, between the EC and Groups and to enable Groups to
communicate with each other. We soon had to provide additional copies
because, in some cases the information wasn’t being passed on or the secretary
wasn’t the most appropriate person to receive it. To avoid expense, (the
hard copy version is about 25p a go), we encouraged people to accept the
unformatted version by e-mail.
The Colchester Group’s decision to publish the
EAU on their website is a tremendous bonus.
The Essex Area Update is published on, or
slightly after, the 15th of each month. Contributions from members and
groups are always welcome. These and requests for email versions should be
made to Len Banister at
