Meet 94 Eastwood Drive (for car sharing)  (grid TM 005 275) or Groton Wood CP (for walk) (grid TL 975 428).  Fast walk covering 965 feet of ascent and descent in the wide Suffolk countryside.  Skirting Kersey on both the outward and return routes, picnic lunch stop in the Semer area, possibly at the ford then a refreshment stop at the Peacock PH in Chelsworth (summer opening times permitting).  Walk has been timed to take advantage of the long early summer evenings - a full and energetic day.  Duration will depend on length of stops dictated by wishes of the group on the day.

Meet: Coalhouse Fort Free CP, East Tilbury Village.

Directions: From Colchester-A12,A130,A13 to Stanford-le-Hope turn. Allow 1.5h from Colchester. Good case for car-sharing! (grid TQ 689 769).  Lunch: The World's End PH, Tilbury Fort. An away-day "special". Long morning downstream along Thames banks, then inland to W. Tilbury village with panoramic views of the Lower Thames Basin. Short afternoon past historic Tilbury Fort then riverside path along the majestic Thames.

Night walk to (hopefully) see the stars, moon and sunrise. Meet at Wherstead lay-by on the A137 to the south of the A14 junction. (grid TM 155 407). Two-car trickery is involved, arranged at the meeting place. Travel to Aldeburgh where a fish & chip supper is available and half the cars are parked. Remainder move on to Dunwich where a sustaining drink may be taken before walking the beach / coastal path to Aldeburgh. Start walk at about 11pm. Please provide adequate refreshment for yourself along the way. Return to Dunwich for car collection. Torches may / may not be required.

Meet Middleborough multi-storey  car park (grid TL 992 255) to catch the coach.  Due to changes in ferry times, departure from Colchester is now 5:30am.  Catch 9:20am Sea France crossing giving us around 7 hours in France.  Walk of approx 6 miles, 9.6km with stop for shopping en-route to walk. Picnic on walk Depart 19:20pm French Time, arrive at Dover at 19:35 and back home around 10:30pm.

 

Approx cost will be £18 with £10 deposit to Kevin to secure place.
