Directions from Colchester:B1022 to Maldon by-pass, then the A414 and B1418 to the S.Woodham Ferrers by-pass and the A132 to the Rettendon interchange then A130 to A129 then turn L at A13 junction and 1st R at lights into Chapel Lane. Allow 1 ¼ hours, car sharing advisable. Longish morning through woods and along a wide estuary path. Short afternoon along crest of Belton Hills with magnificent views, then up through the castle ruins. Lunch stop in Leigh-on-Sea, choice of pubs and seafood stalls for which Leigh is famous. 6.25 + 3.5 miles
