Social Group

The Colchester Ramblers social group organises non rambling events for members of the Colchester group. Past events include ten pin bowling, attending concerts, barn dances and going out for evening meals.

To help with the bookings of events and paying deposits we ask that a one off donation of £10 is made to the Colchester Walking and Social Group. There is a separate bank account which is managed by the group and whose money is solely for the use of the Social group. If you wish to make a donation please post to me.

Detailed below are any forthcoming events. We try to organise one event a month, so as not to completely swamp you with choices. Let me know if you want to attend any event.

If you have an idea for an event they you think would be of interest to the group then please let me know and I’ll spread the word.

If you would like to receive details of new events as they occur please use the form on the mailing list page.

Robin Hood

The new Robin Hood film hits the screen on the 10th May. It starts Russell Crowe and directed by Ridley Scott, both from Gladiator fame. Looking at the trailers it looks pretty impressive. I was going to suggest Wednesday 26th to allow those of you to take advantage of the Orange offer. However the walk that day is north of Woodbridge so I'm going with the Thursday the 27th. I'll advise film times nearer the date.

Castle Park Concerts

This years concerts in the Park are on Friday 30th and Saturday 31st of July. Hopefully we won't get as wet as last year. The Friday night concert is the Eurovision Pop Party with Bucks Fizz, Brotherhood of Man and Tribute to ABBA. The Saturday show stars Hot Chocolate and features the Mototown Boogie Night. Both concerts finish with a spectacular firework display. Get your own tickets in advance and let me know so we can meet up at the gate. Full details can be found at Colchester Concerts

Laurel and Hardy

John Sprunt put me in touch with the Laurel and Hardy society based in Manningtree. They have a number film evenings throughout the year. The next meeting is on the 19th June which will celebrate the 120 years since the birth of Stan Laurel. If you are interested in going them please let me know. I won't be able to make this one myself but happy to co-ordinate. More info can be found here
